Danish Here and Now is a free online course for Danish for Beginners. The programme has been developed with the support of the Ministry for Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs. It can be used to help with homework, self-study and can also be helpful for Danish teachers.
Danish Here and Now consists of 12 lessons. Each lesson has 5 chapters.
Text and Dialogue Grammar and Exercises Listen and Understand Denmark and the Danes Vocabulary
Text and Dialogue In text and dialogue we follow the couple Maria and Søren. Maria is from Spain and Søren is Danish. Søren and Maria take us to work, the canteen, a café, the chemists, the post office, a party etc.
All texts and dialogues are related to everyday life and give an insight into the Danes’ daily life. The vocabulary aims to help the student communicate reasonably well and politely in Danish. All texts and dialogues can also be listened to.
Grammar and Exercises The aim of grammar and exercises is to make the Danish language more accessible, so the students can use it more creatively.
Only a few grammatical rules have been included. These rules have been simplified in order to ease comprehension. This chapter includes links to other sites containing further information on Danish grammar.
Listen and Understand Listen and understand covers the topics from Text and Dialogue and Grammar and Exercises. They supplement the previous chapters but new vocabulary is always introduced. All the listening exercises can also be read as text.
Denmark and the Danes Denmark and the Danes includes factual texts about Denmark and the Danes. Topics covered are: Opening hours, the educational system, courtesies, Christmas traditions etc. For each text there are a set of questions specially developed to train the student to quickly scan a text in Danish.
Denmark and the Danes contains links to other websites containing further information on the chosen topic.
Vocabulary Each lesson has a vocabulary list with a translation of words and difficult phrases from Danish to English.
